Lake “Teletskoye” is the largest lake and one of the most visiting places in the Altay Mountains and the Altai Republic, Russia. Altay name of the lake: “Altyn-Köl”, literally: “Golden Lake”. Its depth is up to 325 meters. Situated at a height of 434 m (1,424 ft) above the sea level, the lake is 78 km (48 mi) long and its average width is 2.5 km (1.5 mi). Its surface area is 233 km2. However, due to its considerable depth, the lake contains no less than 40 km³ (9.6 cubic miles) of fresh water. The lake transparency is high, with the visibility of the lake water ranging from six to fourteen meters. About 70 rivers and 150 temporary streams flow into the lake, the largest of them, Chulyshman River, supplying more than half of the lake’s water. The lake is drained through a single outlet, the Biya River, which, after its confluence with the Katun River, forms one of Siberia’s largest rivers, the Ob River. |
Korbu Waterfall received the status of Special Nature Zone and is located on the territory of the Altai State Nature Park (included on the UNESCO world nature heritage list). Therefore the waterfall receives many tourists. Without the waterfall there wouldn’t be so many visitors on Lake Teletskoye. The waterfall is 12 meters high.
Kamyshlinsky Waterfall is one of the most popular and most visited natural site on the lower course of Katun River. The waterfall is made up of two falls, its total height is 12 meters. The shortest way to get there is through a hanging bridge over Katun River. After the bridge a path leads the way. The visit to the waterfall not free. In the highest season, it is impossible to come near the waterfall and not meet another group of tourists. Most visitors admire the falls from the main ledge. Nearby a wooden bridge leads underneath a rock where you can receive sprayed water from the falls. Since 1996 the waterfall has the status of Nature Monument of the Republic of Altai. |
